Last year, nearly 400,000 voters petitioned lawmakers to support Initiative 1000, restoring fairness and opportunity to Washington’s public employment, contracting, and education enrollment policies.
Our State Legislature listened, and passed I-1000, but special interests are paying to overturn this law.

After a week of ballot counting, it is clear that I-1000 will fall just short of approval. With nearly 50% of voters voting to Approve I-1000, it’s clear that many Washingtonians want a better, more fair and equitable state with opportunities for all.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who cast their ballot to restore a level playing field. While this campaign may be over, the work of our coalition will continue.

People reject I 1000 because they want a better Washington, not legal discrimination in the name of fairness.
This is so close, along with the confusion of a combined initiative and referendum, that it would easily pass with the benefit of presidential or midterm-level voter turnout. The same thing on the 2020 ballot would win by 2-5 points.
